Chocolate Coconut Chia Mousse
Have you heard of Omega-3’s before?! Omega 3’s are essential fatty acids. ‘Essential’ just means that our body cannot make them, so ensuring you get adequate amounts from your diet and/or supplements is important! Omega-3’s are a vital part of cell structure and signalling pathways, as well as a source of energy for the body. They have wide-ranging roles in heart, lung, and immune system function as well as hormonal function.
Foods that are rich in Omega-3’s that you can incorporate into your diet include:
- cold-water fatty fish such as salmon, anchovies & mackerel
- omega-3 enriched eggs
- walnuts, ground flaxseed & chia seeds
This Chocolate Coconut Chia Mousse is packed with omega-3s and is super simple to whip up. If you want to make this recipe even easier, skip the blending step and just mix all the ingredients in a bowl!
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup chia seeds
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp shredded coconut
- 1 cup coconut milk (or milk of choice)
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Method:
- Blend all the ingredients in a food processor or blender until smooth.
- Store the mousse in a container and leave in the fridge for a couple of hours or overnight.
- Serve the mousse with more shredded coconut, fresh berries, and/or chopped nuts.
