Beer Bread
You know when you have some beer laying around in your fridge and you have no desire to drink it?
Or maybe you do want to have it, but aren’t in the mood for a drink. Or maybe, you just want some delicious, warm, fluffy, homemade bread!?
You may be thinking, “how do those things have anything to do with each other?”
Well, we are happy to tell you that you can have the best of both by combining just a few simple ingredients, including the beer, to make bread!
Beer bread is so amazing due to its savoury profile and notes of the wheat really bring out the best flavours in the bread. By using any kind of beer you like, you can make the best loaf of bread right in your own kitchen, and within a few minutes, you have a hot and delicious loaf of bread ready to be eaten with so many different things, or even… plain!
Now we know it may sound a bit odd at first. Alcoholic beer? In bread? Yes… you don’t need the non-alcoholic version of beer. Rest assured, the alcohol content evaporates after it goes through the baking process, and all that’s left behind are the flavors.
The best part about this recipe is the minimal ingredients needed that you can store in your pantry for a very long period of time, so you can make this bread on repeat!
Ingredients
- 3 cups whole wheat flour
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 4.5 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp pink salt
- 12 oz any beer you like (Ale doesn’t let the bread rise AS much, but still a viable option)
Recipe
- Mix all the dry ingredients together first, with anything you have on hand. A spoon, spatula, whisk, or as a last resort, use your hands! There’s nothing wrong with getting down and dirty with your homemade beer bread!
- After that, line your bread pan with olive oil, throw the mix in (it may be a little sticky, and that’s good!) and let it bake for 45 minutes at 375 degrees F.
Trust us when we say that the smell that fills the house while this bread bakes in the oven makes any house feel like home, and it just fills your heart with joy.
Although this isn’t a typical bread loaf recipe, don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s any less great. It is definitely one of our favourite kinds of bread to have, because it makes the best toast with any toppings! Our favourite is to top it with some salt and butter, and it tastes like haven in your mouth! Other complements to the sliced bread is hummus, avocado, and don’t neglect sweets! A good old PB&J on the beer bread tastes wonderful as well!
Try it out, experiment with it, and enjoy every moment!
