Easy Halibut Fish Tacos

Vancouver Dietitians recently partnered with a local, sustainable food company – MeatMe. If you include animal products in your diet, it is important to think about the sustainability of your choices, and the impact they have on the environment and local economy. At MeatMe, they work with small, local family farmers who are committed to the highest animal welfare standards. None of the animals are given hormones or antibiotics, and you can be sure you are always getting ethically raised, locally sourced products.

We did some recipe testing with their fish products, which are sourced from the Haida Wild fishery in Haida Gwaii. We are so lucky to have access to such amazing fish, and it is important to source these products in a sustainable way so that we can continue to enjoy them!

  • 1 1⁄2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 8 x 6” white corn or flour tortillas

Fish taco sauce:

  • 1/2 cup 2% plain greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup light sour cream
  • 1 small lime , juiced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 1⁄2 tsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp hot sauce (ex. Valentina’s)
  • 1⁄4 tsp salt

Other Toppings:

  • Pico de gallo
  • Avocado
  • Shredded purple cabbage
  • Diced Red Onions
  • Fresh cilantro
  • Lime wedges
  • Cotija Cheese
  • Hot sauce

Directions:

  1. Season the halibut with a salt and pepper on both sides. Cut halibut into 5 equal pieces
  2. In a mixing bowl whisk together the oil, lime juice, garlic, chili powder, cumin, paprika, and cayenne pepper
  3. Add fish to a deep baking dish, and cover in marinade. Set aside and marinate for 15-20 mins
  4. Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Brush grill with oil, and grill fish filets for about 3 minutes on each side (cook time will vary depending on thickness of fish), flipping only once
  5. Transfer fish to a plate and cool for a few minutes. Gently break fish into pieces
  6. Add the tortillas to the grill and warm for about 15 seconds on each side
  7. Serve fish on warm tortillas, and top with taco sauce and desired toppings. Enjoy!
