Keto-Friendly Cinnamon Donuts

Recipe by Sherin Sayrany

The ketogenic diet definitely is not for everyone, but we acknowledge that it can work for some people. Our genetics, metabolism, gut microbiomes, and nutrient needs are all different, so it makes sense that there are a variety of diets out there!

The one thing keto definitely has going for it is the use of healthy fats. Healthy fats are important for SO many reasons (thank goodness we are no longer in the low-fat diet craze!). Typically we are referring to plant-based fats when we are talking about healthy fats, such as olive oil, avocado oil, and flax seed oil, but grass-fed butter can also be a good option as it is higher in omega 3 fatty acids! Dietary fats play many roles in the body, including hormone production, vitamin absorption, satiety, and fighting inflammation.

So whether you are keto or not, make sure to include adequate amounts of healthy fats in your diet! Not sure how much you should be eating? Book an appointment with one of our dietitians today.

Recipe for Keto-Friendly Cinnamon Donuts

Ingredients:

1 cup Almond Flour

1/4 cup Monk Fruit sweetener (Or maple syrup if not following a Keto diet)

2 tsp baking powder

1 tsp Cinnamon

1/8 tsp Sea salt

1/4 cup Coconut Oil (melted)

1/4 cup Unsweetened almond milk

2 large Egg

1/2 tsp Vanilla extract

For the Cinnamon Coating:

1/2 cup Monk Fruit sweetener (or brown sugar)

1 tsp Cinnamon

3 Tbsp Coconut Oil (melted)

Optional Chocolate Drizzle

3 tbsp Cacao Powder

3 tbsp warm filtered water

Mixed & drizzled over as desired!

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (177 C)
  2. Combine all dry ingredients in 1 big bowl
  3. Whisk all wet ingredients separately
  4. After both are thoroughly mixed, combine together in the large bowl and mix until nearly smooth.
  5. Transfer the batter into donut-shaped cavities or shape with your own hands, not worrying about taking out the donut hole yet.
  6. Bake for 22-30 minutes depending on how soft or firm you want them to be. Check the edges for browning.
  7. After they’ve cooled, using a small circular object, such as a bottle cap, insert into the middle of each “donut” and remove the center to create the donut hole (you can also use a knife to cut a hole)
  8. Coat the tops of the donut with melted coconut oil and dip into the sugar cinnamon mix, and drizzle chocolate syrup over the tops!
